May 24th - Museum Opens for the Season, 10 am.
June 26th - Floor cloth painting class with Patience Sampson. 10am - 4pm. Participants will take home a 2x3 floor cloth. Registration is required. $55 for Museum members; $65 for non-members, includes materials. Call 354-0858 for more information or to register.
June 30th - Preview party and Lecture with John Bottero of Thomaston Auction Galleries. Bottero launches our Armaments of Colonial America Exhibition with a talk on Revolutionary weapons. Preview party at 6 p.m., talk at 7 p.m. Museum members free; non-members $20 for party and talk, $10 for talk only.
July 1-August 31 – Armaments of Colonial America Exhibition. It will include Brown Bess rifles, Knox’s dueling pistols, historical documents, and various other objects. The exhibition centerpiece will be a cannon on loan from Fort Ticonderoga, a cannon that was one of the original in Knox’s “noble train of artillery.”
July 4th - Thomaston Independence Day Parade. Museum open 1 – 4 pm.
July 9th- Maine Friends of Music concert in the Oval Room, 7 pm. $12 museum member, $15 non-member, $8 student. Reservations required, please call (207) 354-8062.
July 14th – 25th - Summer Teacher Institute, program of the Center for the Study of Early American History
July 14th - Richard Strum, From Fort Ticonderoga to Boston: Knox and His Cannon. Richard Strum, Director of Interpretation and Education at Fort Ticonderoga and author of Henry Knox: Washington's Artilleryman details Knox's heroic journey in the winter of 1775-1776. July 17th - Cokie Roberts, Ladies of Liberty: The Women Who Shaped Our Nation. Roberts, Senior News Analyst for National Public Radio and author of Founding Mothers, discusses her latest work. July 19th - Observance of Henry Knox’s 258th birthday
July 21st - Alan Hoffman, Lafayette in America. Author Alan Hoffman discusses his translation of the Marquis de Lafayette's secretary's journal of his 1824-25 farewell tour of the United States. July 24th - John Adams. Screening of Parts 3 and 4 of the HBO mini-series, based on the biography written by David McCullough. At the Strand Theatre in Rockland. Commentary by Dr. Stephen Berry, Simmons College. Free and open to the public. Doors open at 6 p.m., show starts at 7 p.m. Museum members may reserve a seat by calling (207) 354-0858.
August 7th - Annual Board of Trustees and Membership Meeting in the Oval Room.
August 9th – 10th - Revolutionary War Encampment on the grounds of Montpelier 10am – 3pm.
August 19th - Curator's tour Join Ellen Dyer on a tour of Montpelier while she describes in detail the conservation projects accomplished since the 2002 Patriot Challenge, and get a sneak peek at projects to come. Space limited – registration required. Museum members $5; non-members $10.
September 4th - Castlebay Concert in the Oval Room, 7 pm. $12 museum member. $15 non-member. $8 student. Reservations required, please call (207) 354-8062.
September 12th - 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. – Exploring the museums of Bowdoin College. Take the train to Brunswick, and see portraits that used to hang in the original Montpelier at the Bowdoin College Museum of Art on a guided tour. Then explore Bowdoin’s other museums. Late lunch and snacks included. Reservations required. Ticket price TBD, watch www.knoxmuseum.org for details.
October 11th – 13th - Fall Harvest Weekend.
October 13th - Museum closes for the season. Group and school tours available by appointment through October and November.
December 6th – 7th - Annual Holiday Open House
LOCATION AND OPERATING SCHEDULE
Montpelier sits majestically on a rise overlooking the town of Thomaston,
Maine at the intersection of U.S. Route 1 and Maine Route 131 South,
and is approximately a 90 minute drive easterly from Portland.
Memorial weekend through Columbus Day: Guided tours Tuesday-Saturday,
first tour at 10 a.m., last tour at 3 p.m.
June, September and October tours on the hour. July and August tours
on the hour and half hour.
During the winter season, group tours are available by appointment
until mid-December and from mid-April. The museum gift shop is available
by appointment year round.
ADMISSION FEES
Adults - $7.00
Seniors, age 65 and above - $6.00
Children age 5 to 13 - $4.00
Children under age 5 are free
Family Limit - $18.00
AAA and AARP members receive $1.00 off the above fees by showing their
membership cards and requesting the discount.
Museum members are admitted free.
Group Tours Please call in advance for group rates and additional
information
Special group tours with the Director of Education may be arranged
by appointment for a $10 per person fee, with a minimum of five participants.
