According to first-hand reports, the basement level of Montpelier contained two kitchens. Currently there is only one kitchen in the museum.

It contains many implements that would have been found in the original Knox mansion, based on the probate inventory taken after Knox's death. A few items even have the stamp that Knox put on all his tools.
