Visitors to the museum begin their tour in the orientation room, which houses changing exhibits of Knox family objects, a reproduction cannon, and several photographs and paintings.

The tour begins with a short video by long time volunteer and local historian Luthera Dawson. In the original mansion, this room would have been the second basement kitchen - probably used by live-in servants to provide for their own cooking and heating needs.
